   My kingdom¹ for a terminal emulator that:

   1. Works under Wayland.

   1. Has split panes.

   2. Conforms to GNOME’s design guidelines (is a GTK window, reacts to system colour scheme changes, etc.)

   I can get WezTerm pretty close to this but its window looks entirely alien and while I’ve managed to configure it to switch themes when the colour scheme changes, it has a tendency to lose its title bar when it does. 🤦♂️

     (Similarly I can get Black Box terminal close but it doesn’t have split panes. If GNOME Console supported split panes and could change its theme based on the currently active colour scheme, I’d use that.)

     @samir Yep, Zellij is great but I’m not clever enough to keep remembering to lock it so it doesn’t conflict with Helix Editor. Wezterm has the advantage of having control over the whole experience. Now Zellij as a terminal app… that would be _very_ interesting ;)

     @BjornW Used to use Kitty. We didn’t get along. Was very opinionated about certain things (which is fine, but so am I, and they didn’t overlap) ;)

     @aral Recently I came across https://sw.kovidgoyal.net/kitty/ I haven't used it yet, but based on their site it might be something to test? Another different view: perhaps a combination of simple terminal app like foot and combine this with tmux? Would this work for you? Not sure about GNOME design guidelines in these suggestions btw.

     @smari Yeah, Tilix is great but unless I’m mistaken it doesn’t adapt to light/dark mode.

     @aral I guess you also tried kitty and alacritty? I use wezterm for several reasons, it is leaner, has good font support incl ligatures and is in Rust.

     @aral @smari @Keltounet Yes, it does adapt to system light/dark mode changes (tested right now on my work Ubuntu 22.04)
