Boy that's real neat but have they tried making, IDK, some fucking games for the thing rather than hardware iterations? I'm starting to get the feeling odd numbered consoles for Sony are a death kiss. Outside of the initial Playstation the libraries seem to favor evens. PS2 had a great one and by the end PS4 was rather robust whereas PS3 was a lot smaller due to difficulty to develop on. Now here we are at PS5, years in to it, and where are the games?
Don't even get me started on Xbox Series S/X. I think they forgot they even launched a console.
@c I still get the feeling that the OLED was going to be their PRO model but someone looked at the logistics nightmare during the height of the pandemic and its effect on supply and said fuck that so they just put a nicer screen in it. Smart decision to be honest probably saved them the disaster Sony and MS saw with nonstop shortages. All Nintendo has to do is release a solid follow up, preferably with backwards compatibility for original Switch titles, and they'll be king of he mountain for quite some time.
@Jim@c Sony has fucked up so hard, including the weird Japanese games censorship shit, that they've completely lost their place in Japan and even the most hard headed devs, and I'm talking "Falcom was considering supporting Stadia before Switch" are starting to switch their main development on Nintendo instead
The Vita too. Aside from some braindead decisions, IMO it was the first Sony console where they also began to take the mindset of "Let's release a console and hope devs will come".
In the west everyone forgot it existed as a result, and also it was locked down compared to the PSP. Also the analog sticks have a serious design flaw that causes dust buildup.
@PhenomX6@Jim@c What's ironic about the Vita situation is that the lewd games dev and extreme anime stuff is what kept the system alive and that's what Sony started going after shortly after. Literally biting the hand that fed them
The PS3 was going to be an utter failure, but Japanese devs kept at it because "They knew it would bounce back", but it only did because of the devs efforts
Western devs too, because they knew that the PS2 was a smashing hit and so they were willing to suffer programming for it because they had a feeling that "hey the PS2 was a clusterfuck too and it was the top selling system of all time".
I'll go deeper, the PS3's architecture was a disaster for the industry.
Aside from snuffing out the era of "weird innovation" with literal schizophrenia for a system architecture, developers hated it. They hated how hard it was to program for it, they hated Sony's apathy towards banning hackers and fixing security issues on the PS3 (which was fucked since it had a "minimum firmware version" and was freely flashable instead of using efuses like the 360 had).
@Yellow_Heart@ChristiJunior@PhenomX6@Jim@c all in all companies needs to learn that 1000+ people multinational projects are just insane. They just need to learn to scale the fuck back, which is also how series that are innovative or actual quality or has an actual vision by a director is born
It might happen soon as "AAA" are starting to reach a limit and trend chasing is only going so far. It's all the same tired samey games under the same fucking genre, that looks the same. Or online multiplayer garbage that's fighting 10 thousand other similar games for attention
Microshit was even talking about "AAAA" games, which is hilarious
@PhenomX6@ChristiJunior@Jim@c@coolboymew wow. that opened up an old can of almonds. I remember that game being super hyped and never hearing of it again. same year I gave up watching e3.
@Yellow_Heart@ChristiJunior@PhenomX6@Jim@c it's one of the many obvious casualties of the whole thing. There is so many of these fucking live service multiplayer games. They can't all be winners
@coolboymew@Yellow_Heart@PhenomX6@Jim@c Xenoblade 2 definitely made money, but I wonder if something like Xenoblade X was profitable. It may very well have been, since Nintendo kept greenlighting more Xenoblade, either that or they were forward-thinking enough to realize that Xenoblade filled a niche none of their other series did.
@coolboymew@Yellow_Heart@PhenomX6@Jim@c Every single prior Xenoblade release had in some way been screwed over by the timing, that's why Monolith Soft was so desperate to achieve that holiday 2017 release, which pretty much nobody actually expected them to pull off.
This is why I loved Team Fortress 2. No frill play. I can't play with these passes and ladder garbage. I want my comfy server where people micspam The Aristocrat joke and we have hentai sprays
>buy nostalgic franchise >fag it up >collect a few dollars >shelve it for 10 more years
There is no such thing as creativity in any media. They just rehash old shit and add gay niggers to everything to suit the modern times. It's so tiresome. I miss good games.
@Jim I like my xbox game pass is cool and theres lots of old xbox games i can play on there with the back compat. Cheaper than a PC for me at least but yea Microsoft is running it into the ground
@Boomerman@Jim I hadn't paid attention to it and honestly couldn't name a game released on the PS5, and I can't even remember the xbox's name... I remember the x-bone because it had a silly name.
But anyhow, I'm surprised/not surprised at how badly Msoft seems to have lost the plot... I mean diversity is a hell of a drug.
@Bill_Boone@Jim Theyre just buying companies while they let 343 fuck their flagship into the dirt. Microsoft games are dogshit and intstead of making them better theyre just buying good ones
@Jim Besides Bloodborne, which games would you recommend for the PS4, i just bought one second hand to play that one title but am open to other hidden gems
