i will also soon start working on a technical article about MNT Pocket Reform. if you have questions that are currently unanswered, feel free to direct them at me!
@cblgh 180 deg, i.e. you can make it flat
@mntmn one q:
* how many degrees does the screen tilt? (how far does it open)
@mntmn can we use the NVMe SSD or MicroSD as the boot drive?
@clark MicroSD yes, and you can put your system on NVMe—eMMC or SD would contain u-boot bootloader then.
@cblgh you can see it in the video in the disassembly section
@mntmn dooope :) i've been wondering that ever since i saw the first pics!
@mntmn does it have a fan?
@radiumtree no! passive cooling.
@mntmn hell yeah, silent machines ftw! 🔇
@mntmn you go grrls, allet jute!!!11
dicker daumen hoch auch fürs video, so well done
@mntmn Is the USB dual mode? It looks like the SoC supports OTG but I’m not sure how it’s connected on the pocket reform. I’m wondering if I could use it as a mouse/keyboard input for other devices. I guess Bluetooth is an option even if USB isn’t though.
@magnetic_tape @schodet i think this should be quite possible
@schodet
Before learning about the Pocket Reform I was initially on board for a GPD 3 Pocket because of its expansion port which can accomodate a mini KVM addon (HDMI-IN and USB out) which turns it into a display and keyboard for an external computer the Pocket is plugged into (https://gpd.hk/gpdpocket3), really handy in a datacenter. I'm proud and happy to support MNT and open source hardware and I hope someday to be able to design or help to design such an addon (hopefully one which can be embedded inside the shell) to be able to transform an already nice machine into a essential addition to any field technician working in datacenters with servers and bulky crashcarts.
To me a KVM addon is the killerapp the Pocket Reform needs and deserves. Maybe an idea for a stretch goal @mntmn? ;~)
@mntmn here are some questions:
- Can we have pictures of the populated internals? Is there some room left for custom hardware?
- Are the trackball or its buttons blocking the way to the thumb keys? Nobody is touch typing in the video :)
- Can we have blank keycaps?
- Why no RJ45 ethernet? No room?
- This is almost what I had in mind for a DIY cyberdeck… Can you read my mind :) ?
@oldkid the EM06 doesn't list any bands for china in the datasheet, but maybe the EM05?
@mntmn Hello there, I pledged the basic model. I also want the 4G module. Does it support China Unicom's bands?
@oldkid yep, and there are alternatives also.
@mntmn thanks for replying. I'm not familiar with the phone modem. But according to the web search, China Unicom uses B40, B41 and Em05 has these listed. Is this a standard piece of hardware? I could save some import tax by ordering it locally.
@magnetic_tape yes, there is space. we will publish a technical walkthrough on monday night.
@mntmn
This would not only be a nice addition but would open up the product to many more use cases! I guess there's some space left into the case for such an addon? How would you see that implemented physically?
