     It was the predecessor to many many fantasy strategy games, and invented a lot of the tropes.
     
     Grab an emulator and give it a spin. Many a fine hour was spent in High School with 4 pals playing it.
     
     You had to pass the controller around, but it was 4 player.

     @SilverDeth @11112011 @TrevorGoodchild It's a lot of fun if you have a few friends to play with. You have to pass the controller, but turn-based RPG, you can kill your friends or make a party with them, the game has randomly determined plot twists.
     
     The thing I like about the game is that it pushes most of the gameplay onto your side of the screen. Like, if there's a sliding scale where you've got chess on one end (where the entire game is on the board and you can completely ignore the other player), in the middle you have poker (where the cards matter but you can't play effectively without figuring out what other people are trying to do), and on the other end is Monopoly (where the stuff happening on the board is almost incidental, you make deals and loans and trades and someone can bail someone else out of a problem because you don't want them to get bored or just to screw with other players). So this game is closer to the Monopoly side than the chess side.

     @SilverDeth The only emulator I have used that it doesn't crash in is ines, so I have some 32-bit ines binary in ~/bin. I figure that I could fix it with a hex editor and a memory map of the NES ("Unrecognized instruction: $1B at PC=$98C6", and I don't know where in the NES's RAM that address would appear at, ines treats it as a nop) but I haven't attempted yet, so if you don't find a better version, it wouldn't be hard to replace it and make one.

     @SilverDeth 620 locations have 0x1b in them and it turns out that the memory map is kind of complicated ( https://www.nesdev.org/wiki/CPU_memory_map ) but if I just guess based on the format having a 16-byte header ( https://www.nesdev.org/wiki/INES#iNES_file_format ) that the 0x1b at 0x98d6 in the ROM is not a coincidence and change it to 0xee (a one-byte NOP, apparently there are lots of NOPs aond some of them ar two bytes: https://www.nesdev.org/wiki/CPU_unofficial_opcodes ) then *this* version runs in at least NEStopia.

     @p I would have never imagined they'd have made something so involved from a multiplayer perspective back in the NES era. This weekend I will track down a ROM.

     @SilverDeth I have one, but it crashes in a lot of emulators because of a bad instruction introduced in the translation patch. So if this one runs, have fun. If it doesn't and you find one that does, let me know.
