   @WashedOutGundamPilot So, the english spent like 600 years executing the bottom 1% of its population every year - the dimmest and most violent, selecting for smart, orderly people. This may have helped make them a great power during the pre-industrial and industrial era. It also seems to have made them a nation of sheep.

     Pretty much. Same happened in Ireland, anyone capable of forming a rebellious thought was killed, sent to the new world as a slave or exiled to the continent to be a mercenary.
     
     Europe is in a pretty sad state right now.
