About 30% chance of bullshit but still…..imagine how unsafe he would feel if he saw a holstered 1911 on a fat boomer’s hip at a mcdonald’s? Terrifying, backwards country

I got a decent knife professionally sharpened (or so I imagine) when I purchased some backpacks from Cannae. Missed the holder once and by the time the knife stopped it easily cut into my body. It wasn't deep, about a centimeter, but it hurt.
I'd be willing to believe a larger knife, properly sharpened could go through fingers. The idiot's hand likely slipped up the knife when it was stopped by the chainmail and sliced on the blade while he was squeezing.
Cannot say they fell off, but I can imagine it wasn't pretty.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

I know a few people who made them, one guy did it during his downtime on national service.
The best kind are made from flattened and riveted steel rings, but you need proper metalworking tools to make those.
The cheapest kind are made from butted wire, almost no tools needed. They're not a strong but should be enough to protect you from a shitty little pocket knife.
There's a guy on youtube made one from thick gauge copper wire (not for self defence reasons), he said it was really good excercise because of the extra weight and had the unexpected side effect of neutralising BO since the copper helped kill off any bacteria on your clothes.
If you're just interested in self defence, consider sewing some layers of kevlar fabric into a hoodie. That'd probably be the cheapest option.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

The guy probably was wearing the mail, since he mentioned its size and bulk being better used for other stuff (realistic detail).
But, the knife guy likely just slipped and cut his fingers a bit, people greatly exaggerate blood volume, it always looked 5x as grievous to a layman. The guy probably needed stitches, but not a full on reattachment by any means.

XD I think this might have happened in imaginationland. -

Something I note with a lot of motorcycle gear is that they fail to anchor it properly. You’ll see “slide jeans” that make it sound like they can take a 60 mph get-off and 40” strawberry smear on asphalt, but it’s just 30 square inches of yellow fabric….held on by 5 little stitched loops.
Motorcycle gear is funny like that. Lots of science in the fabric itself, too. Density, weave, quality all goes into how bulletproof you can make something. If I did a car I’d probably just do phone books w/ some kind of hard backing to stop AP

It's not just used for armour, you can use it for making composites like car panels and kayaks. Also it gets used for making the anti-skid clothing motorbikers use.
