     @EvilSandmich This is more a case of intellectual stagnation/degradation due to the ruling political philosophy being progressively incapable of tolerating any dissent or self-correcting, and producing second-order effects on government-funded science institutions

     Auron McIntyre had an okay show not too long ago where he noted, from a historical standpoint, that when true science reaches it's limits in what it can achieve for society that it will devolve into a religion.
