> Windows: Sorry, but you're going to have to do that every time you reboot. I don't give a fuck what you want. -

I used to dual boot a few years ago because there were still some things that could only run well on Windows but nowadays that's just not true.
About the only thing Windows is better for than Linux is audio mixing and audio editing and even then Windows isn't that good.
As much as I hate Apple and Mac OS I have to give them credit, Mac simply does audio better at this time. Linux does everything else at least as good if not better. -
🐘🐘 Humpleupagus 🐘🐘 (humpleupagus@eveningzoo.club)'s status on Monday, 13-Mar-2023 20:29:42 JST 🐘🐘 Humpleupagus 🐘🐘 I have an i9 with 18 cores at 4.3ghz that I use with windows with studio one. That's the only windows computer I really use. I have a old laptop with windows on it for when there's something that really needs windows. But everything else is linux. Arch or debian depending on use case.
What I like about linux is that generally, if there's a problem, there's a solution. When windows gets fucked, it's just fuck. Proggy no work. End of story.
Linux also has far more interesting and versatile software. For example, I have five instances of mpd running on my local server, one for each person in my house, and each instance uses pulse audio to send to which ever room they're in. Setting something like that up on a windows machine is a nightmare. And that's only one example of what I run on my network.
Windows also has to prompt with security warnings constantly. It's especially annoying when I have to upgrade plugins from twelve different developers all through their custom installers, that's like 400 prompts. Like let me sudo apt or pacman, motherfucker.
I won't even mention the difference in update / upgrade time. With windows, you better plan a vacation. 😒 -
Living Space Studios :verified: (livingspacestudios@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 13-Mar-2023 20:29:42 JST Living Space Studios :verified: @Humpleupagus @Mac_CZ @furgar I like having an OS that doesn't choke my CPU with bullshit and cause my cooling fans to run at mach speed anytime I do basic shit because Windows can't run basic programs without over 9000 layers of NSA spyware.
I also like not being forced to update my OS even though Windows updates routinely break shit.
I especially like having an OS that doesn't fuck up my hard drive because after three decades Windows still can't implement a proper hard drive format that actually works and doesn't brick your machine or lose files.
That's why I use Linux, despite it's occasional flaws. -
Mac_CZ 🇦🇶 (mac_cz@mastodon.macsnet.cz)'s status on Monday, 13-Mar-2023 20:29:46 JST Mac_CZ 🇦🇶 @Humpleupagus @furgar Exactly. Also everything is on web/cloud, so even the "I need the program which only has windows version." doesn't hold up.

I can get to login, but it black screens from there. I don't really need the net, but for updates. That machine is largely off the grid.
