     @Paultron @Terry Oh, what's that one boomercon book where the glownigs brainwash a guy and tie him to a tower w/ an SKS so they can use plunging fire on a stadium full of people? It was one of those 90's post-waco books

     It was always the kook's gun back then because it was cheap and kind of capable, now it's just the holdovers who haven't updated their collection since 1997

     @NitroDubs @WashedOutGundamPilot @Terry probably given that the sks has short stroke piston vs long stroke AK pattern, as well as a slightly longer barrel
     both are good enough out to 5, 600 m tho
     it is not difficult to ring a human target at 300, no optic with either even with bad ammo

     @Paultron @NitroDubs @Terry for people who care to learn what they're doing, yes.

     But whenever you start making assumptions about accuracy capabilities you need to recheck your mental models with the gun-shop clientele simulator: Most dummies don't sight it in any further than the furthest lane at the cheapest range, and those who go out to the boonies only care about minute-of-washingmachine.

     Sure, most guns could pull it off, but it's like a manual transmission corvette being a "solid 10.9 in the quarter", it assumes a level of expertise and practice few owners actually have and exercise

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Paultron @Terry I'm not 100% sure but I've heard that the SKS is marginally more accurate than an AK variant, though that could be fuddlore.

     @NitroDubs @Paultron @Terry Everyone I knows just heads out to find state/fed land that allows shooting, but it's only really doable for the western 40% of the country. Even California has some, so I can't imagine it's all that rare. Just look up things where target shooting is allowed on BLM land, be cool and heavily armed if you're 300 sm from the border if alone, because the mexis can roam around looking for loot drops.

     But that free range is part of why a lot of plainsfolk like 18" barrels and 1-8x optics, they can shoot off the back porch and tag 300yd targets without either end of the shot straying off their property

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Paultron @Terry I need to ask around to see what local hunting clubs charge per year. I want to see what me and my rifles are actually capable of in terms of distance and accuracy. I have no desire to actually go hunting though.
