   NVM I know they didn't openly admit it but the general guy said it was put on ice for just a little while it's not abandoned, just leave it, they'll end up making those NGAD fighters in the future they just have to wait for uh

   IDK but don't worry it's definitely not a dead program already

     Okay so I'm told it's more a matter of timing, they don't want to go all-in on a manned design right now because they'll end up with something heavier and dumber than they could get if they just postpone for a little while.

     Maybe there's something to that, the russkies really didn't get anywhere with the CHECKMATE™. Nobody wants to be the guy who just BARELY missed a generational technical improvement

     @givenup @doonxib It's funny bc they were a day-only dogfighter originally. It's a testament to how amazing our technology is that they became a full multirole platform.

     As far as things go they're damn cheap, extremely effective as fighters, and passable as strike fighters. Everyone who flew them will talk your ear off just reminiscing about them. "It's a fuckin jet engine with a cockpit bolted on to the nose!"

     and zealist is right they would do just fine in terms of combat readiness (different from State Department ease of operation) just buying victor models

     I think there's a robot pilot thing for this too, I heard they made an R2D2 to literally fly it like a person so older fighters can be used as drones. IDK how true though

     @givenup @doonxib For war, yeah. But the F35 is meant to do other stuff like lock down employment, chain allies to the USA's interests for half a century, and make DC urchins feel like they have wide operational latitude to strike without risk

     A lot of the F35 is actually bound up in the theory, the cultural idea of what the aircraft is more than what it actually is. They feel good thinking they have an invincible stealth fighter that can invisibly sneak and destroy targets without anyone knowing
