@coolboymew The American NES was made *not* to look like a console video game system. They wanted families to think of it more as a VCR-like appliance than a "video game".
@coolboymew I dunno, that's the one we had in Europe too, right? That sudden splat of different colors always felt off to me, made the buttons look like fucking M&M's. The more restrained American approach worked better. Multicolored buttons also worked better for the GameCube, despite me in general disliking the GameCube's design.
@Economic_Hitman@coolboymew Yeah, it just looks lame and basic af to me. I was seriously blown away by just how much cooler (and futuristic!) the N64 looked when finally laying my eyes on that thing.
@coolboymew@Economic_Hitman Yeah, that's WAY better than the European one. It annoys me that the NSO SNES icon is regionally adjusted, because I'd much rather have that console as its icon.
Flash carts are the way to go nowadays on OG hardware. I'm trying to convince my brother to let me borrow his NES so I can clear shell mod it with LEDs and try to get a blinking light win mod.
I know that Wario's Woods was the last NES game to be commercially released but I still think the swan song with the NES was Kirby's Adventure. Star Tropics II was good as well but it did not have the same level of mainstream success that Kirby's Adventure did.
StarTropics got a bit more mainstream now it's on the NES mini consoles. I grew up playing the first game a lot more than the 2nd though I ended up playing and beating the 2nd one through an emulator. While the controls are improved I liked the first game more.
When I was a kid, I had to choose between Final Fantasy or Startropics as thebdirst game I ever bought myself. Chose Startropics and nevwr regreted it.
