Well, that never happened either. Sincere Christians with chronic or incurable illness have their prayers unanswered ten times out of ten. Not a recent phenomenon; David Hume knew this, as did Hobbes and Luther. There is no reason to believe even one miraculous healing described in the NT ever happened. -

Hot take: Genesis 2 and 3 is totally compatible with evolution and atheism when you realize it's about apes becoming sentient of mortality, the link between sex and reproduction, and localized Malthusian population overshoot. -
FortyTwo™ (fortytwo@noauthority.social)'s status on Friday, 09-Aug-2024 00:55:58 JST FortyTwo™ @KuteboiCoder @blitzed Hot reaction: people believe that God became a man, made the blind see, cured the sick, rose from the dead, but spoke creation into existence in just seven days? That's just crazy... 🤣

All the normal vices. Alcohol is a crutch, weed is a crutch, porn is a crutch. Atheists just wanna sin etc etc.
But also, more relevant, the modern "respectable" crutches are def a crutch. Therapy is a crutch, and so is medication. Even air conditioning and modern conveniences of every sort.
Fascism is a crutch. Democracy is a crutch. Capitalism is a crutch. -

I read a bit of Spengler, and he wrote about the distinction between "culture" and "civilization". Civilization outlasts culture by centuries. It is the rotting carcass of culture.
He also said that civilizations in periods of imperial expansion are, I think, in decay? That they expand when life back home is fairly miserable and stagnant, and they invade and overwhelm weaker, less militarized societies rather than heroically defying strong ones.
Spengler is stereotypically typecasted as a nazi and reactionary and authoritarian and one of the historical boogiemen. So it is interesting to read some anti-imperialist takes from him.New Janny in Town likes this. -

maybe so.
I don't really "feel" like a proselyting atheist, it's not something I take pride in. The non-existence of a supernatural extraordinary being is actually quite boring. I couldn't imagine trying to be "better" at having that belief. -
Protoss (latein@cawfee.club)'s status on Friday, 09-Aug-2024 00:56:17 JST Protoss @KuteboiCoder @bobbala Though I do take pride in being an atheist and would like to be better at it, I'm not sure of there being much merit in proselyting, because in my estimation education and intellectual integrity are the main way out of religion -

Christians think they are better than us (ok boomer) but I don't think we are better than them. Religion is a crutch; and if you don't have that crutch than eventually you're going to rely on a different one. -

There's the little fact that Christianity had a mandate to convert the world, and damned you in the afterlife if you weren't one. No other religion ever had that; not Judaism, not the imperial cults or tribal gods of the Roman Empire.
Babies and toddlers were not taught to sing odes to the emperor on while fed on their mothers' knees.
Early Christians (to their credit) offered alms to the poor and the sick, as a messaging and recruiting tool. This is during the era of slavery and millennia before the first welfare states of the modern era. Being a slave was your welfare check back then. -

The only people who believed it were people who wanted to believe. So who would refute it? How would you refute it?

I'm have to ask you to endorse prooooduct because I just kinda hate book apps and ebook devices. It seems like their all backdoored and cloudshyte, rely on walled garden vendor bookstores, don't connect to a Ubuntu device, etc.
I like used college textbooks and used paperbacks. They're like $3 each.New Janny in Town likes this.
