@Foil_Hatter @Eiregoat @DW2 @Floydian_Psychology @Tovarish_Pedal “hey I know 3 girls from the neighborhood were dragged into his mansion by their hair and never left the premises alive, but what if he has a thriving beanie baby refurbishment business he’s using to pay for all this?”
If you’re a first worlder it’s impossible to understand what this is like for them. Gangs like this don’t need to hide. You know who’s up to what and where. There’s a community, you don’t shake everyone up and move around the country every 3 years, nobody’s a total stranger. You see the kid grow up and fall further off the path, devote himself to increasing criminality and cruelty. You hear the hushed grocery store whispers when he abducts and rapes one of the neighbor girls and see the police drive on by when his boys are at the bar dragging another one into the bed of a truck by the hair.
There’s no such thing as a good guy in that line of work, you don’t need to worry it’s all a frame-up, because there’s no shortage of evidence of their crimes to begin with. Seriously, until you’re in that environment, it’s implausible. Insane. Inconceivable. You can’t imagine anyone just openly telling you “yeah, check out my new car. Saw it downtown, followed the guy, gave it to me after we smacked him around and almost blew his head off. Eh, he’s fine, he’ll buy another hahaha”
I wasn’t even equatorial (where the heat makes people particularly brutal) but I still saw enough nasty, depraved shit to last me a lifetime. It’s too much, it comes off as fantasy to us, we’re too distant from having it here. We don’t know what it’s like having to build underground cupboards to hide your computer while you’re out of the home, because they WILL go and take anything of interest the second the house is unattended. We don’t have to make fortresses and rig up jurassic part fences just to have a 1bed/1bath box to sleep in. But we just might.
