     @DW2 They don’t need ratings though, they need people to either sub to prime (and forget to cancel) or retain prime (because everyone’s always bleeding away without new content keeping them around)

     The industry has had plenty of time to adapt to giving people shit to “hate watch”, they take the hit in some ways but a lot of this nonsense knows exactly what it’s aiming for

     @WashedOutGundamPilot I'm not so sure about that. Amazog spent something like $1 Billion just on The Rings of Power. With that commitment you need Game of Thrones-like ratings to justify the cost (via added subs), and it got nowhere near that in season 1.

     @DW2 One among many. I’m looking at it in the wider view, like I’d expect they do. How many people learned that prime has a netflix competitor that bundles with prime shipping? How many ads were they able to drive into their platform? How invigorated did all the LOTR talk make merch sales?

     These are very, very big operations, can’t think that cutting off one tentacle means the rest didn’t manage to scoop up enough food to make the gambit worthwhile. They’re still learning too. I’d bet this card is specifically approved because they said “nah….we like some controversy. it’s good for the brand”

     @WashedOutGundamPilot This is from an article last fall. Amazon execs were really counting on the Rings of Power being a ratings bonanza.
     
     If you can't get the ratings you want, it's gonna be very hard to boost subscriber counts, at least to the levels you're aiming for.

     @DW2 @WashedOutGundamPilot did you see the announcement that warner and new line still have or have extended the rights to produce more licensed films? There could be 2 competing visual media adaptions of the appendix material from RotK and knowing our luck they'd both be poz-maxxed
