I hate the wayland display server with a perfect hatred. I will never adopt this dogshit. Total wayland death (TWD). For one it's got shit GPU support, super half baked and secretly just renders with the CPU. Fucking fake and ghey...

@gnarley_boot @cowanon Yeahurope. Can't imagine free market not working for you guys. Is there no competition there? Around here, per country, you've got 2-4 top players with scummiest prices and tens of "virtual service reselers" who drive the prive down to 30-50%.

@White_male @cowanon Is there no competition there?
It's funny that you mention this. The answer is for the most part no. Most utilites here run like a monopoly, especially water and electric. The only new cat in town I've been eyeballing is a fibre-optics company and my unit has fibre-optics installed. I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on it but I want to research them more, not willing to get burned again by a nothing shitty corpo.

@gnarley_boot @cowanon I get 5000 GB per month or 165 GB per day of data for my $7, as far as my needs are concerned i have practically unlimited data.

Do you live in America? I know in Europe the internet is super cheap and fast. Here we pay large amounts and in turn get 3rd world pakistan kb/s speeds and even service is constantly interupted at night. Main reason I rage quitted Sparklight (formerly Cable ONE).

@cowanon @gnarley_boot Mobile plans are almost all a scam. I get all included prepaids at $7, can't imagine spending $55.
-
@White_male @cowanon
The 55 was for unlimited data.

I have many computers and a Thinkpad. The crux is that at the time I was paying over $150 a month to have both phone and cable internet and that was just too much it had to go. So I suffer with Pinephone internet for $55 a month. However doing this has changed me and made me more patient, and I really appreciate HTML and CSS sites over Javashit.
-
Oh I see, it's about saving money. At least it's had a good effect on you. Man, $55/mo for a phone, that hurts. No wonder you turned your back on the even more expensive plan.

Yeah my best experience is with Phosh on PostmarketOS but that project really slowed down due to lack of devs. I just stick around because I can use the device like an actual Linux computer and when it's being nice, I can get things done on here.
This all stems from my dispute with my ISP and my cord cutting. So I rely on my Linux phone as my only connection to the outside world. While I've learned tricks to make it more usable, this crashing shit is getting old.
Still I'd rather be a Linux pinephone dogfooder than an Andweeb or Itoddler.
-
I can understand not wanting to use a shit phone, especially when it's the only thing you have. Damn, man, get a laptop if you can afford it so you aren't suffering so bad.

The problem is that on Linux mobile, the two main DE's are Phosh (Gnome) and KDE Plasma Mobile. Both projects early on swithed to wayland (grave mistake). And now we are stuck with this broken software stack. The only other option is sxmo (simple X mobile, I think its based on dwm). Which is a literal mobile window tiling managers and it's super high maintenence and autistic and I'm not in the mood for that. So I just dogfood Phosh because it works great 85% of the time, the other 15% when it decides to bug out is what's pissing me off. But I chose this life so I will lay down in my bed.
-
I tried to use a Pinephone and I ended up using sxmo most the time because I wanted to be autistic, but I still hated the phone for being a POS, worse experience in Phosh and KDE Plasma Mobile and everything else (and how laggy it was!) than even my $20 blackberry clone!

What does it supposedly do that's better than X that one would use it instead? Just because X is really old?
