Found my desk. $30, supports up to 300lbs, variable height, not made of particleboard.
Also Headphone/controller hanger+cup holder
One more thing I need and that's USB ports I can bolt on to the desk so I don't have cables going everywhere

Wignatia (lawrencegerald@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 30-Jun-2024 08:18:21 JST Wignatia @monsterislandcolonizer @burner part of my purpose on this earth is to convince people to get good furniture, especially if it's a screaming deal because it's no longer fashionable
I mean, I've used a plastic folding table from Costco as a desk before, for quite some time, and I could have set myself free of that at any point, but I didn't

I've used those a ton, they're awesome. Got 4 in my house right now, they've been pushed into the male part of the house and I will not be giving them up - you can fit bins underneath them for some very handy storage. And you don't have to worry about staining them with oils or paint, they're just picnic tables.

burner (burner@norwoodzero.net)'s status on Sunday, 30-Jun-2024 08:20:57 JST burner oh, and look at local auction houses for antique desks. You can probably find a high quality one for like 50 bucks Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

The old maxim used to be "ah go to the rich part of town" but in thrifting w/ ladies I've found the ritzy spots are more competitive. The uppity housewives have gotten into "restoration" so you now have flippers looking for the 50 yo oak pieces to spray paint and sell for a couple thou. I like the parts of town that have older people, the other day we just took the long way to the post office through town and spotted 4 saturday yard sales along the way. Most is crap in the newer houses, but the old ones usually have the heavy furniture nobody wants to move, and that's quality
I don't have a lot of faith in getting the great deals on office chairs though. Everyone told me herman miller $1600 chairs (that's $2,754 for canadian homos) could be had for $200 when you go searching for them, but they always get snapped up by mexis at 0600 the second these people put them out.
I wouldn't have these problems if I lived somewhere better, but whatever, maybe you guys have better demographics

We just find new routes through town for fun, to look at homes and judge the people living in them.
I tried going to a couple office places but all the pricing was par with ebay, and whatever deals there were got slurped up super early. Probably much better luck in a less latinX area

burner (burner@norwoodzero.net)'s status on Sunday, 30-Jun-2024 08:33:14 JST burner garage sales can be really great, but I never find them reliable. If you just drive around on the prowl for garage sales, at a certain point you'll be eating into your "discount" with gas. -

Every nice old wood desk I have ends up laying in state forever because they're too tough to move. That's movable at least.
But if he's not even swinging the name-brand polymer picnic table I think the euro wood piece for 50x that price is a tad out of budget

They work great for what I do, and it's a total game changer in the shop so you can bring stuff right up to eye level.
Tougher with a bunch of cables though, you basically have to add a staging table midway to hold all the stuff and add slack everywhere.

And I'm not trying to spend that much money on one regardless, not for gaming. -

That used to be the go-to in the dorms. Then again ikea stuff is cheap as hell, doesn't last long and it's basically cardboard so don't get it wet, but it looks passable when people visit.
IDK though, my office is the 12-foot lifetimes and old car seats from my projects

Hollyjollytailspike (monsterislandcolonizer@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 30-Jun-2024 08:42:43 JST Hollyjollytailspike @WashedOutGundamPilot @LawrenceGerald @burner Yes I'm not trying to spend a ton on a desk. I want it to be cheap enough I can replace if I screw it up making any of the small modifications I might make to it. Or it breaks or something
