it's funny how americans think a unique national ID is some sort of evil globalist surveillance plot while everyone else just watches on like "lol"
-
@chjara that's why republicans don't want it, democrats don't want it because they are scared to death of it being required for certain things for some reason
-
@Moon @chjara namely voting. That's the #1 reason.

Not only that, but here's another fun fact: if you're a convicted felon and have been released, different states have different laws. Mine lets you vote if you're out of prison, others are only if you're not on parole/probation, and in some states you can't vote whatsoever if you're convicted of a felony.
On the other hand, muddying this is the fact that the people pushing for laws to abolish this are only doing so because of racial demographics and not because of the possibility that tons of people have a felony conviction for some bullshit reason like drug possession.

@Moon @PhenomX6 @chjara > n many states it is also possible to vote if somebody at your district voting location vouches for you.
BRUH?
-
@PhenomX6 @Moon @chjara apparently you don't need id for voting in america right?
-
@MischievousTomato @PhenomX6 @chjara by various means (including using photo id) you can acquire a different id that allows you to vote without picture id. in many states it is also possible to vote if somebody at your district voting location vouches for you.

@PhenomX6 @MischievousTomato @chjara voting is managed by the states, it's different between states but has to be consistent in the state or the federal government can apply equal protection constitution clause
