   Finished Neuromancer, loved it.

   Think it helped that I’d read Peripherals recently so this wasn’t my first Gibson.
   He does drop you directly into the story with no explanation, so it pays to be swept along until you are brought into the narrative.

   Now deciding what to read next.

     I liked "Pattern Recognition." All his other cyberpunk stuff failed to capture the same atmosphere as "Neuromancer," which was mostly imagery.

     I would not hesitate to pick that one up. Although not my favorite, it is a good satire of virtual culture from 1996.

     Funny, I also have trouble making it through a Phillip K Dick book. I dislike his writing style almost as much as Ayn Rand, Toni Morrison, and other cardboard characters writers.

     There is a #Fediverse #bookgroup and @sim is its most vocal advocate.

     @bookstodon @amerika @GLFC Thanks I’ll look out for some of those. Though I’ve tried Philip K Dick stories before and couldn’t get into them. Maybe 20 years later I’ll enjoy them more. I do like Bladerunner.

     @amerika @KikiElara @bookstodon I liked the Necromancer and Pattern Recognition trilogies, but The Peripheral just didn't capture me the way his previous works did. Even blindly accepting the premise, the characters and story felt flat.

     Try Snow Crash or Diamond Age if you haven't already. Both are excellent.

     I could never get into "Snow Crash." If you liked Neuromancer, try these influences:

     * Michael Crichton "Terminal Man"
     * William S Burroughs "Naked Lunch"
     * Thomas Pynchon "The Crying of Lot 49"
     * Philip K Dick "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" + "Blade Runner" the movie

     I think Don Delilo has to be in there too but no firm indicators yet.

     OK, going to throw some names at you, none pedo far as I know. Alfred bester. Phillip Joseph Farmer, and poul Anderson. The last is my favorite.
