2D rotating shots are so rare now.

But yeah, the whole industry is supported by a very thin line and that circle generally
The industry is actually somehow doing as great as ever. You'll always find crappy CG now but ever since 2020 the quality went up across the board
On the podcast I make this point a lot, a lot of isekais and such during the 10s that seemed like they should have some action often couldn't even muster a fight worth a shit. Now your average anime, even a bunch where you wouldn't expect fights manages to have one that isn't bad
I've been told that the 00s were even more miserable generally -
Snow Gundog (gundog@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 05-Jun-2024 12:19:29 JST Snow Gundog @coolboymew @CaptainFuggetaboutit @Goalkeeper Makes some sense with how anime has gained more ground in the west too, there are more jewels if you appreciate certain kinds, along with a few normie-friendly breakouts like MHA.
Depends on if the quality uptick corresponds with increased viewing overseas, better quality = more people watch, so there is less that winds up on the fringe.
If memory serves, you and/or others have noted that we had big classics in the 80s/90s, leading to a bloat in shows which seems to be catching up in quality now. Maybe because the isekai genre is so popular despite oversaturation?New Janny in Town likes this. -

Snow Gundog (gundog@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 05-Jun-2024 12:19:30 JST Snow Gundog @Goalkeeper @CaptainFuggetaboutit @coolboymew What was that thing that went around a while ago, western companies looking to get into anime not realizing it's a closed loop system and they can't just 'make their own animes and print money'.
It's LN ➡️ Manga ➡️ Anime ➡️ Merch ➡️ LN/Manga & Repeat. The physical copies and merch, mostly merch, are what make it go round, sort of an in-built Black Friday-esque thing, but the reason any of that works is because anime is still beautiful enough that people will spend money on it, and Star Wars is proof they can't get their own IP's to sell merch.
On that note, there was a small Am thread earlier, here's the pics. -

Snow Gundog (gundog@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 05-Jun-2024 12:19:32 JST Snow Gundog @Goalkeeper @coolboymew I just finished rewatching Skeleton Knight and the use of very obvious CGI at certain points still confuses me as to why they did it.
The ED is one thing, just part of the style, but in the anime it is just perplexing because it's rarely action shots, sometimes it's literally walking towards the camera from a distance, for a few seconds. :alexjonesheadscratch: -

I think in recent years they raised the floor but lowered the ceiling so the quality is more consistent but you generally don't get your Ghost in the Shell SAC's or your FMA Brotherhoods where it's consistently phenomenal quality the whole way through.

First half is almost flawless, then it just cratered after Ep. 15 and kept on snowballing. New Janny in Town likes this. -

Also, monster girls are hot. -
