     TBH I'd never really deeply loved any girls back then so IDK what it's like to be soul-bound to one growing up. I got predated by older chicks early on so my whole dating regime was messed up from the start - even the swoony cutesie hearty eyed relationships felt like I was going with the flow. In time you can find a better girl, one you truly adore, and you'll forget all about it? Maybe? IDK. I think what I love about my girly now is that she's just pure hearted, deserving of love and adoration so I don't feel like my effort/attention/investment is wasted on her.

     One of the things we have to lean into as adults is understanding and accepting we won't ever feel that same flood of hormones like we're sixteen again. That was a one-time offer from mother nature, and that girl was probably just the closest one that could bring it out in you. If we shrunk you back down in the time machine, and gave you a teenage body again, and your current wife/gf was there beside you, do you think you'd love her more or less than your old HS crush?

     I sometimes walk past lookalikes of my ex on the street and flip out inside. I'll think it's her until I get closer and notice a feature that she doesn't have.
     
     Awhile back I walked past one that was literally her identical twin I swear. The closer I got to her the more my heart pounded because I couldn't for the life of me find anything that didn't look like her. She looked more like her than the image in my head of her. The only thing that was off was her hair color. I'm pretty sure it wasn't her though. But I spent a good 3 days ruminating about it.

     @CenturianFrend @drawthentic Give her your old Ipod? I think that helped. Part of it was probably that her sister was older, so to her scene girls were what "cool kids" did, by the time she hit that age the fad was dead. Just a few days ago we were listening to my old homecoming playlist and cringing together

     It's just weird being treated as a scene girl historian every so often, like "does this look right?" and it's just a studded belt and hot pink nail polish

     @CenturianFrend @suquili @drawthentic It really is peak for both. I actually saved a cool post from a 'femanon' once where she described it from her POV. You only have so many 'firsts' together, so many struggle years where you can eat on the floor of an apartment you can barely afford and slowly find happiness together, in the same life phase.

     I'm sad I lost the cute stories, the history, the intimacy of those old relationships, but I'd probably be unhappier with them now that I can see 30 yo exes aren't much like they were at 19

In the past when there weren’t as many options out there, I imagine relationships were much more stable because of those romantic/nostalgic hormones keeping the love alive. You most likely were gonna marry the village girl nextdoor whom you’ve known your whole life.
     
     Unfortunately for me I was experiencing those hormones with a girl who already experienced them a solid ~6 years before me. She was in a different headspace than me.

Very cute stories, childhood friend type of thing, but in the end they just weren't right. Today, one of them fell into pills after a crash, and has basically become an onlyfans escort, and the other adopted a negroid to peacock for her libshit friends and obviously gay husband (that she rebound-married within a year of the breakup yikes)

     I hate when roasties say it but I probably DO prefer being the ME on this track here than I would be there. I wouldn't have learned what I know now, and I'd be with a chunky liberal woman, cope posting about how "it's good to have political diversity in a marriage, it challenges me!"

I try to rationalize that I could go find them and get to know them all over again but it wouldnt be the same.
