Actually now that I think about it, what do I do to break the Goldfish monoculture and actually get a real meal plan going? Choice paralysis is a bitch but I'm sure to get the better of it eventually.
-
@netdoll I used to eat tendies for years not goldfish smh
-
@PhenomX6 It was something I picked up in the immediate aftermath of my NDE a decade or so back after health issues started rapidly developing due to gross negligence on the school systems part and I had to pull out in order to save myself.
-
@netdoll damn...
I make burgers with a indoor electric grill before I go to my wagie job so I can afford to set money on fire via auction sites (more addicting than gambling no joke)
-
@netdoll oooh. good luck in your journey :)
-
@errante I also like both of these, so definitely something to keep in mind :)
-
@netdoll if theres particular cuisines you like, you can compliment your core choices with their specific commonalities. i like indian, so i have fenugreek. i like middle eastern cuisines, so i have sumac
-
@netdoll heres core some ingredients that i'll buy buying when i move out, for reference:
- cornstach (thickens sauces, soups, stocks, and makes crispy chicken)
- soy sauce (one of the most useful ingredients. umami, salt, versatile in a variety of ways)
- fish sauce (similar to soy sauce, but very meat complimentary. add it to mince to create delicious umami flavours)
- turmeric (one of the core spices. present in many cuisines. great colour. tastes a bit shit raw)
- paprika (there is literally no debate with this stuff. you will find a use for it)
- cayenne (i like to make things a bit spicier sometimes, and cayenne is useful in african and american cuisines a lot)
- ground cumin (cumin is used in a lot of cuisines to GREAT effect. add it to curries. add it to mince meat. add it to taco filling. add it to shakshouka. you wont go wrong)
- ground coriander (esoteric pick on my behalf; it compliments cumin and paprika when used in conjunction. it's also got a great flavour just on it's own, esp with chicken and a touch of fish sauce)
-
@netdoll when cooking, a big expense is the initial one of getting set up with a stock of spices and other stuff that you like. once u have it, meal price goes down, bcos u can just use what u have. one of my fav things to do is slap some udon noodles in a broth made with literally whatever i can find, and it generally turns out nice bcos im stocked up

@netdoll one recipe i discovered was that chopped okra tastes /really/ good if you fry some chili flakes in oil till they soften, then add the okra and some fish sauce
-
@netdoll buy some pak choi, some peppers, some tofu, some carrots, cabbage, asparagus, etc, whatever you like at the start of the week, then jist chop em up and put em in a pan with some oil and chili flakes and soy sauce and you'll have smth that tastes good and goes well with a bowl of rice
-
@netdoll id reccomend buying a ton of condiments you like working with a d a bunch of vegetables and just starting off w stir fries
-
@netdoll i bought 2 fm towns parts computers recently and I am bidding on a dead psu x68k. I'm doing it more to gain experience fixing this as well and documenting it.
But what's more addicting is the local Amazon return auctions, tldr returned Amazon warehouse stuff and similar ends up here. Holy shit that's addicting like crack. I bid some on a huion tab, fixed it since the cable was loose inside, and can't wait to start drawing stuff more once I save up and take a break from work to study for certs.
-
@PhenomX6 Oh I bet, especially considering the kinds of things you bid on. I'd probably end up head first in the eBay computing rabbit hole myself if not for lolnomoney and my volatile living situation
-
@PhenomX6 >amazon return auctions
Sounds like it has the potential to be as goated as uni surplus and then some
-
@netdoll uni surplus is dead around here. They moved to govdeals 💀
The nice part about this auction site is that they have shit like returned flat pack furniture and all and so I bought a desk there with minimal shipping damage I'm gonna assemble for like $10.
On the flip side the ewaste place around here is pretty sick.
