     @qwerty @RatPoster it holds up the fact he lets fern run and fight as proof that the story is just poorly written, since it's not a terminator machine it means there's MORE to the demon than evil, since it has pride, and all it lacks is empathy.

     So they basically want to see frieren adopt him and teach him empathy about humans, in so many words

     It's all to let down the guards of man to kill them more easily.

     Their entire morality system is based on carefully constructed moral relativism which makes it ok for them to brutalise anyone they like.
     
     If objective good and evil exist then they're the bad guys. They see the demons and they see themselves.
