     @poopernova even worse with the royal navy is that most of their WW2 capital botes, even carriers, had incredibly short lives compared to their american counterparts. most ww2 carriers got retired by the 60s, with a handful soldiering on in the 70s, the oldest american botes were still in active service by the end of the cold war and the Iowas stayed in commission till '92.

     @poopernova should add a caveat to that, the royal navy botes that stayed in the royal navy had relatively short service lives. the lucky ones that were sold or transferred to south american navies had extremely long service lives, with the Minas Gerais (a Colossus class) serving up until 2001 with the Brazilian Navy.

     @ferrarilegends @Gundog @Groomschild @poopernova Yeah, too cost effective for the industry and they still can't power it

     or make a barrel that doesn't prematurely wear

     I think we might see them in weaponized space platforms though, once you get mass drivers goig it's all the same
