How can Hank & Hans from Myth Of The 20th Century be so out of touch on the Ukraine War?
They're discussing "how can Russia keep up when losing armor" and 1-to-1 tank quality while the Russians are parading abandoned Abrams in Moscow and advancing at steady pace for months.
They really believe on MUH AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM

@MechaSilvio tbh the parade of "this wonder weapon will win the war" immediately followed by burning remains of said weapon being filmed in HD to a russian phonk soundtrack after being exposed to artillery dominated industrial warfare would be fantastic comedy if it wasn't coming out on the backs of a gorillion dead slav conscripts
-
@Paultron @MechaSilvio people never learn that industry always win the war, not the equipment themselves.
-
@MK2boogaloo @MechaSilvio sometimes it wins the war
sometimes industrial powers piss money down the drain because they're forced to use the big fancy equipment on a futile mission like in vietnam or afghanistan (both ussr and usa)
-
@Paultron @MechaSilvio never dude, the Romans didn't win against many barbarians invasion just because they use Gladius nor the French were able to stop the Germans in Fall Gelb even when they have superior tanks. Industry and the people win the war, I could argue it's more about the spirit of the people itself but that's for another thread, when you have both you will be guaranteed to win any war.

@MK2boogaloo @Paultron @MechaSilvio Speaking of romans and weapons, I remember some ancient historian recalling the late roman empire soldiers abstain from wearing armor protection and only wearing light chainmail or no armor at all, consequently getting absolutely decimated by the barbarian arrows, and I just can't help but compare it to the western military trend of reducing infantry protection to operator style small chest plate even after the latest big conflict reassured the shrapnel as the deadliest threat on the battlefield

@MechaSilvio The decline in quality of Myth 20C has just been shocking. I’ve honestly stopped listening.
Nick Mason, please return, the world needs a hero

@YourAverageNewfag @MechaSilvio @Paultron I think the reason is simply because of the DECLINE OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE itself. They don't have the money nor the will to wield such a huge army anymore, they prefer to buy villas and throw party every day. They didn't have the mentality of ancient Romans who would get 100k troops to fight Hannibal even though the Republic got defeated again and again by him.

@MechaSilvio Turns out a lot of people can't break out of US propaganda, either because they're willingly complicit in spreading it, or because they are, in fact, really fucking stupid.
Russia depleted the entire US empire's available stock of materiel for Ukraine, while Russia itself loses less than it manufactures in a month, and as it advances, its defensive lines are packed with its vast reserves of cold war materiel, which they're able to bring up to functionality with relative ease.
On top of that, Ukraine no longer has a professional military, it has conscripts usable only as a series of speed bumps with 700,000 men in the past two years simply "unaccounted for."
Frankly, the only thing slowing Russia down at all is the fact that it's being extremely casualty-averse.

@YourAverageNewfag @MK2boogaloo @Paultron @MechaSilvio didn't roman soldiers have to provide their own personal equipment? maybe they were just too poor
IDK why soldiers don't wear a full IBA anymore, I thought mine was quite comfortable even with side plates. it did a much better job of distributing my FUCKING HUGE COMBAT LOAD than a plate carrier ever could
but I also carried more than 3 magazines and a couple glow sticks

@deprecated_ii @MechaSilvio @Paultron @YourAverageNewfag >idn't roman soldiers have to provide their own personal equipment? maybe they were just too poor
Only in the Early Republican era before Marian Reform. After that they're given items by the state. The situation got so bad in very Late Roman Empire where the rotten part of Rome had been growing uncontrollably.
-
@deprecated_ii @MK2boogaloo @Paultron @MechaSilvio Maybe there's just no incentive to wear it
However, when you're on a theatre where anything ranging from 40mm grenades to TBMs can land on your head at any moment you're definitely going to try to hoard as much armor as possible, which is exactly what is happening in Ukraine
