   @boburtle @wgiwf @Xeraser I never appreciated how utterly, superlatively based my dad was growing up, at least in terms of the WQ. If he had a catchphrase, it would be “don’t parent me, woman. I do whatever the fuck I want, you’re along for the ride” or somesuch playful variant. He’d listen to her to an extent, but it was always clear she could only ever advise him, never order him. He’s just unruly and unmanageable, a king in his castle that can only be supplicated to placate her wishes. Lucky for her, she’s lovable enough that he nearly always did.

   Funny enough their marriage is going strong, because he’s a man and she is indeed contentedly along for the ride. When she calms down she would tell us “I know, it bugs me but he’s given me a very good life. I’ve never had to work a single job after high school.” GFs would always balk at it and say “I can’t believe he disrespects her like that!” but then love it just as much when I do it to them.

   We’d be so, so much better off if boys had dads courageous (haha) enough to say “woman, I’ll do what I want. You aren’t my mother, quit acting like it“. But, then again, a lot of boomer men, in their sloth, actually like having a mommy-wife, because her captainship frees him from having to support the weight of responsibility.

   (and only in this era of Zog is such an arrangement even somewhat workable. In all others a woman-led home would crumble)
