People got stuck w/ socom profile because it was the only one the gov could buy in that length, and it ended up the de facto standard.

   IIRC there’s something similar w/ the 22” SPR the navy bought, they couldn’t get 20” precision barrels because they kept being told there was already a 20” bbl in the system for the M16. So they extended it a bit.
