@Rayfield @TalmudTranslator @TornadoOfTerror I just had too many of those “holy shit I gotta get out of here” moments on dirt bikes absolutely redlined just keeping up w/ traffic. I got to the point where I REALLY wanna be able to just bail on any position and gain at least 5 car lengths in 3 seconds at any IRL traffic speed. Mobility is all we have, gotta get as much of it as we can (unless you just stay off of high-speed roads, which isn’t an option for me)
Really depends on your riding though. I’m not much of a danger seeker, even when cycling I prefer sedate, level cross country trail riding to fun downhill stuff. I’m not really curbing my riding style by jumping on a 500 lb v twin. Guys w/ more offroad skill hate it because it hampers their fun. If we had woods, then I’d probably be on that 690, I came close to buying it a few times but I wanted more pavement performance than off-road. Still like looking at them, though.
Problem is, none of what I posted is problem-free. If you want reliability, well, the old carbed thumpers have it in spades. If you wanna futz around with ridiculous electrical problems and mysterious ghosts, go austrian/italian/german. If you wanna do it while going fast, choose the first two.
