@ninja8tyu It's just how the language works. You could say (私の)国に帰ります
Or you could simply say 帰国します
I've also seen 上京 used in anime as you can see
実は母さん今度上京することになったの
His mother's telling him that she's gonna be coming to Tokyo (for her class reunion) and so she wants to drop by and see how he's doing and discuss his future and stuff.
Basically, a word like 上京 is just used like that, where as it seems weird in English. Of course she could have also said something like 東京に行くことになったの。But both work :zt_shrug:
