Consoles have a place for people who don't want to have to become tech savvy to play video games. The prevalence of phone race shows that this demographic will never go away. There will always be consumers who just want to plug and play, gas and go, or add water and throw it in the microwave.
Especially if you're a parent buying an electronic babysitter for your kid, all you want to do is plop down some fun box in front of the TV and know that it just works. And that demographic is always willing to pay for the convenience.
