   Everything I hear about this ending makes it seem like the utter capstone of a westaboo's career imitating progressive liberal pop culture goyslop. The messaging throughout the series always had such a strange japwriter-wants-to-appeal-to-USA-NPR-Listeners vibe,
   
   At the end of this poor kid's grand struggle is that he ends up ruining his life and getting NOTHING out of the deal but a lifelong addiction to vicodin and a lonely existence reminiscing about how much he peaked in high school. Literal suicide track, he's stuck teaching in there so all he can think about is the good old days while he watches everyone move on to fruitful, successful lives.
