   I'm BSing w/ the artists to try and envision what's going to be in vogue in the future, I think the escape into 2d will stand to a large extent, but AI will add some realism and get rid of maybe half the jap styling in the facial area. The rest will stand, but the faces won't look "anime" like they do today. AI improvements will figure out a style that looks realistic enough but leaves enough space for the brain to not see a real person in that face. It's lying somewhere there next to the uncanny valley.

   But you see the style cropping up in these boorus already: People who look at 2d characters and try to make them realer looking, usually uncomfortably so
