@branman65 @bleedingphoenix @SuperSnekFriend I've had thoughts at times what would happen to al those Shinto shrines and temples if Japan were to truly become Christian. They're beautiful works of art and architecture.
But can you truly separate them from their former religious context? Can you make (what is an objectively a pro-social thing) summer festivals and new years visits at the local shrine take on a new innocuous meaning post-shinto?
This has happened to some extent in Europe with harmless cultural practices (eg. Christmas trees) of the prior pagan ways retrofitted into a Christian context, same with some temples such as the Pantheon being preserved and converted into churches. But what of Japan?
