@WashedOutGundamPilot it doesn't need to juke or maneuver, the carrier is effectively standing still and only by sheer luck is anyone going to hit a relatively small missile coming in at mach 5 -- which is a bit over 1 mile per second
mentioning CIWS as anything other than useless in this scenario tells me this guy is not in fact a good "redneck engineer". at mach 5 the missile will go through the entire engagement envelope of a Phalanx in 1 second. the Phalanx's best bet of hitting a missile would be firing before the missile entered its range and hoping some of the already-in-flight rounds would intercept the missile's path. that would not work most of the time, and when it did, perhaps 2 rounds at most would hit the missile
