   @SpaceElf I’ve long said a true battle between the US and china would be like a slapfight between retards. We’re each lacking in critical areas we don’t much admit. The chinks can’t compete in many areas, and our tech is generally pretty cool……if it works.

   I contend that just like this, there are a billion little issues and incompetencies that we fail to notice because it’s peacetime and we have room to breathe. It’s not a huge deal when the BEST plane in the F-35 wing only has a 75% mission readiness rate, or that the average is barely 47% because nobody’s dying without them in the air.

   But let the balloon go up and suddenly all that really matters. It matters when you don’t have the freedom to ship spare parts across the globe overnight, or that your shipping is forced to travel in convoys for ASW. It really matters when your maintainers can only keep 1/4 of your wing operational all the time, or that each plane suddenly has all these little niggles that prevent full functionality.

   “oh we cant take four nine, it can’t fire AMRAAMs. I dunno, it just won’t arm ‘em, we have to take out the box and ship it home but they haven’t sent us a replacement.”
