Unfortunately the problem with the alternatives is they range from "Unable to decrypt: The sender's device has not sent us the keys for this message." to "This message was encrypted with OMEMO and could not be decrypted." to "dude why are you making me make all these accounts to talk to you just use what everyone else does".
Don't get me wrong, Telegram is jank in many ways (good luck with making an account with a VoIP number) but it's so funny how every FOSS advocate just seems to miss how Discord got big.
Discord got so big because you don't need to make an account to use it in many servers (or you didn't for the longest time) and then it'd rope you into using it, and you could use it in the browser.
Downloading 4000 things and self hosting is too much to ask for even the MCSA/MCSE cert having IT guy whose day job is giving coworkers the laptop provisioned with Windows Autopilot and making sure the darn thing works, let alone your furry friend online who wants to have the latest ErP Ready technology.
I really want to learn to write a DOS sound driver so I can do something like Zone 66 or PPZ8 (on the PC98) did and have multiplexed drums/similar on the PCM channel.
A lot of western gamedevs/demosceners went for "use the PCM as a codec for mod players in software" route instead, while Japan's method is more associated with arcade games and the distinct sound used in later PC-98 games.
So fun fact: An obscure #PC98 fighting game in many dumps of it contains a copy of the old Yankee Doodle DOS virus. Yep, somehow western DOS viruses did infect themselves to some degree on the PC-9801.
when I relaunch pawlicker.com on another shit tier lowendbox VPS I'm thinking about making a PC-98 braindump on shit I've learned about the PC-98 hardware over time, it'll just take a while due to anxiety and all.
with e621 janitors being e621 janitors again, I'm going to make a shirt to celebrate/parody this and put it on redbubble soon (after making my own and maybe wearing it to a furry meet).
