One of the most unsavoury things in this discourse is when powerful people get away with blaming the proles for not choosing their harm merely in order to stop greater harm - rather than promising no harm at all and giving people reasons to actually vote *for* something. Voting *against* something is so negative and doomed, doing more harm in the long term. Biden got in on an anti-Trump vote, and this time rather than Trump winning, Harris lost. Ask why, rather than blaming your comrades and browbeating them into voting to demean and devalue themselves.
Let us not forget that a major reason we even have the rise of the far right around the world is precisely because of these "centrists" and "liberals" who slammed shut the doors on the Bernies and the Corbyns for their own careers and vested interests, leaving a confused, angry, and downright disenchanted population demanding a shake-up of a system taking us into disaster. The door slammed shut on socialists allowed fascists to the fore.
Okay, this has to end. Please stop shaming people for not joining you in voting for genocidal careerist professional politicians hell-bent on the capitalist status quo and associated climate collapse just because they are Not Trump, and certainly stop trying to guilt-trip marginalised people into accepting their own harm because it may just be less harm than the alternative. This line is privileged, arrogant, ignorant, and cruel.
Capitalism sucks so much that it's tough to even find decent service providers online. I am sickened by people like Andy Yen of Proton (who have had a lot of my money over the years, but not for much longer) spouting "both sides" bullshit, evoking Swiss neutrality tropes with false equivalence between fascists and anarchists, Zionists and Palestinians, and @aral recently reminded me of how the Desmond Tutu quote applies here: "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor." I'm sick and tired of techbro culture narratives deliberately disconnecting tech liberties from civil liberties and freedom.
@worik That's not quite what this is. I think Signal's Meredith Whittaker sums it up effectively: the technology should be private and secure for all, yes, but the ethos should never hold a neutrality between freedom and fascism. The very principles of such tech and civil liberties are in opposition to fascism, and just as Meredith Whittaker has, we should all champion opposition to fascism. Expressing "neutrality" is, after all, simply supporting the oppressor.
"An internal FBI threat advisory obtained by The Intercept defines Anarchist Violent Extremists as individuals 'who consider capitalism and centralized government to be unnecessary and oppressive,' and 'oppose economic globalization; political, economic, and social hierarchies based on class, religion, race, gender, or private ownership of capital; and external forms of authority represented by centralized government, the military, and law enforcement.'" You know what? I can barely believe I'm saying this but - wow - credit to the FBI for putting anarchism in such simple terms as to make its appeal obvious. This must help provoke so many more people into turning towards anarchism that it's basically free publicity. Nice! #anarchism#anarchist
"Anarchists are simply people who believe human beings are capable of behaving in a reasonable fashion without having to be forced to. It is really a very simple notion," as David Graeber explained so well. "If there’s a line to get on a crowded bus, do you wait your turn and refrain from elbowing your way past others even in the absence of police? ...Do you believe that most politicians are selfish, egotistical swine who don’t really care about the public interest? Do you think we live in an economic system which is stupid and unfair?" https://davidgraeber.org/articles/are-you-an-anarchist-the-answer-maysurprise-you/#anarchism#DavidGraeber
