As Open Technology Fund money for Eclips.is by Greenhost has dried up, it looks like I’m going to have the fun task of migrating sites away and/or closing some of our sites to avoid an additional ~€200/month hosting bill come January.

Some are sites that I was keeping for archival purposes, like https://better.fyi and https://ind.ie. Others are activism sites like https://clean-up-the-web.org…

@hans Not really. I’m really not excited by cryptocurrencies. The only reason I implemented the option on the funding page is to show that we’re not opposed to the idea of a digital currency as long as it doesn’t destroy the planet in the process. But I also can’t get excited about it or about money in general. (Which likely explains why we have so little of it.) :)

@sebastian I couldn’t care less if the price is burning down the planet. Proof of work = proof of waste. It’s also a very bleak view of the world to think perfection is achieved when we no longer have to trust anyone. And, finally, even that breaks down when you consider that it’s open to 51% attacks and the consolidation of mining power. That planet-destroying Bitcoin? Runs on trust 100% that the miners who could 51% the system won’t because it’s against their interests. 🤷♂️
