@lightweight Someone needs to explain to these people that two key things that have to built into an online system - security and auditability - already exist in the current system of paper ballots in polling booth. And there is a high turn out in general elections using that system. Councils need to look at themselves to see why people don’t bother voting. It’s not the voting system that’s the problem.

Politicians the world over seem in thrall of the US-style digital capitalism and citizens seem happy to trade away virtually any freedom and privacy in return for convenience. We have been very well trained to accept this, and as long as innovation is left largely to profit-orientated private businesses, achieving personal digital sovereignty for everyone will be difficult.
