If they were adults out of the house, on their own, and not under my daily control I would disown them, especially since it’s obvious this situation has been going on for years at this point.
I would let them know that they are always welcome to reconcile once they resolve their mental illness, which I would be willing to help find proper counseling for (mostly for the tranny).
But really I would try to figure out how I went wrong as a parent and see if there is something I’ve done (or not done) that could have caused their issues in the first place, keeping in mind that everyone is ultimately responsible for their own decisions.
HAPPY NOW?

vic (vic@seal.cafe)'s status on Friday, 24-Nov-2023 13:13:25 JST vic @Zerglingman @tillybridges I guess they didn't give the ages. If they were adults I'd disown them until they both came to their senses. If they were still in the house I'd take other measures to correct the problem. -

vic (vic@seal.cafe)'s status on Wednesday, 22-Nov-2023 12:22:12 JST vic @weaf Controversial opinion, Star Wars (even the original) was never really that great. It was okay I guess. -
vic (vic@seal.cafe)'s status on Wednesday, 22-Nov-2023 01:37:13 JST vic @hidden @Leaflord I never played it, but I heard that in Star Wars Galaxies they only had so many "Jedi slots" and you had to dance for days upon days to get your entertainment skill up, or something like that, just to have a chance at being a Jedi. -

Unfortunately, the challenge with all of these solutions is hardware availability. Not many people have all the technical knowledge needed to find a bunch of specialized components, put them together (breadboard and/or solder, let alone weatherproofing, let alone integrating solar charge controller and battery, etc.), program them in a robust way, and find likeminded people to do the same. The instant some company decides they want to do it, it turns into yet another proprietary spy device. -

For open-source Helium/TTN equivalent, there's ChirpStack. -
vic (vic@seal.cafe)'s status on Tuesday, 21-Nov-2023 23:03:11 JST vic @meowski @raccoon @Zerglingman @jeff The network exists and is actually robust, but it's only useful for tiny amounts of data, and you get nickel-and-dimed for every packet you send.
Most people are interested in setting up hotspots for it for passive revenue generation, but it's not really economical. A hotspot costs $300-900 (plus monthly electricity) and only earns a few dollars per month. Nobody is actually using it for sending data.
Plus Helium just has that "give us all your money" feel. Their HNT crypto-like-currency feels like a half-baked corporate attempt to appeal to "the people" while masking where the real dollars are actually going (into the Helium owners' pockets). It is very much a big Silicon Valley project. -
vic (vic@seal.cafe)'s status on Tuesday, 21-Nov-2023 22:49:02 JST vic @jeff @raccoon @Zerglingman Too bad mesh networking never gained mass appeal. The Things Network and Helium were about as close as anyone got to making a real "by the people" internet (though Helium is really just a cash grab). -
