@Gargron This is the year that Masto & the Fediverse have proved that Another World is Possible - we're not forced to live our online socials in the court of the oligarchs.

That is a huge achievement - both in terms of the millions of people that your work has directly impacted (& the impact has been overwhelmingly positive) & in terms of showing what is possible

Ignore the inner voice that says that it's never enough. It will never be silent, so all the more reason to start ignoring it now

@aral I've been thinking of doing this for a while, but I'm still not completely clear on what happens if I do - e.g. what happens to my existing graph, posts, etc.

@aral An older UK person I am close to needs to use a heart monitor. The doctors advised us that the best-available tech is the Apple watch and the ecosystem associated with it.

The alternative, non-BigTech solution was obviously inferior and had a horrible UX that even relatively tech-savvy seniors were clearly going to struggle with.

"Give up your data to BigTech or have worsened healthcare outcomes" is already here - even on what's left of the NHS.
