They asked about PeerTube, I compared PeerTube to the web?
I never compared myself to anything?

You can subscribe to any PeerTube channel via any podcasting app.
1. Go to a PeerTube channel
2. Click on arrow on right side of "Subscribe" button
3. Copy the link from "Subscribe via RSS" option (if you're using a phone, long-press and select "copy link")
Use this link on your podcasting app.
For example, on Apple Podcasts:
1. Go to Library
2. Click โฏ in top right
3. Select "Follow show by URL"
4. Paste the link
PeerTube lets you upload video or audio, so it can host any kind of podcast.
I'm not elevating myself to anything? I didnt create PeerTube, nor did I claim to?
I'm not closing my eyes, I'm trying to do something about it.
I run a site at https://fedi.video specifically to help people explore PeerTube safely..
Good point! ๐
I didn't say that.
PeerTube doesn't even need this the way Mastodon does.
Mastodon automatically federates with all other servers. Admins have to choose to block a server.
PeerTube doesn't do this. It automatically blocks all other servers. Admins have to choose to allow other servers to federate.
In this sense, PeerTube is a lot safer than Mastodon.
I'm not knocking safety or people who want more safety.
I set up https://fedi.video specifically so that people who want to explore PeerTube safely can do so.
I set up https://fedi.garden so people have a safe place to choose a server.
The part where we disagree is I don't think it is reasonable to single PeerTube out about this. It's a general problem on any type of internet server.
Yup, the list of supported formats includes audio files (.mp3, .wma, .wav, .flac, .aac, .m4a, .ac3). You upload it exactly the same way as video files.
You can optionally include an image too, or just upload audio with a blank screen. There's also a planned "zero pixel" upload in the future, where there would just be the audio and no screen at all.
Some channels are just podcasts with the podcast's artwork as an image.(for example https://media.privacyinternational.org/c/podcast/videos).
Other admins do, I boost their servers' videos every day at @FediVideo
That's exactly what I do on my site at https://fedi.video
It has lots of nice PeerTube channels, it blocks all the nasty channels and nasty servers.
There are many criminal websites, does that put you off looking at non-criminal websites?
PeerTube isn't some kind of centralised thing, it's thousands of totally independent sites.
Most of them don't host criminal stuff, and you can follow the nice ones without having anything to do with the criminal ones.
If you want to browse nice content on PeerTube, I run a site at https://fedi.video which only shows responsibly-run channels and accounts.
That's sort of like asking if Tim Berners-Lee has worked out the criminal content on the World Wide Web?
PeerTube isn't a centralised service, it's a piece of software that anyone can use to set up their own service.
Content on the internet is the responsibility of the person who hosts it and/or uploads it. It's nothing to do with the software that the server runs on.
If you see something illegal, report it to the authorities and they'll arrest the person hosting/uploading it.
Hey there, welcome! ๐
You don't need to do anything! Just make posts on your own server, and they will automatically be sent to the servers of everyone who follows you.
If you want to, there's an option on Mastodon to hide your followers and follows lists:
1. Log in through your serverโs website
2. Click on "Edit profile" if youโre on desktop website. If youโre on mobile website click on your profile icon in the top right corner, then Edit profile.
3. Click on "Privacy & Reach" tab
4. Scroll down to "Show follows and followers on profile", UN-tick this box
5. Click Save changes button
You will still be able to see your follows/followers, but no one else will.
Yeah, happened twice, does seem to be intermittent and difficult to track down why it happens.
If you try adding the description again (for example by editing the post) it should work.

Just to repeat, this isn't really signing into Pixelfed with a Mastodon account. That isn't possible AFAIK.
This process is basically just creating a new Pixelfed account, but copying over some settings from your Mastodon account.
You can only use the UI of a server where you have an account.
You can only receive your Mastodon content there if you also have an account there and then follow your Mastodon account from there.
It sounds like you're just talking about the general feature on the Fediverse where if you follow an account from another service, its posts will appear in your timeline?
You don't need to sign in on the other service for this to happen. You can follow other services' accounts from Mastodon just like you would follow any Mastodon account.
