At the end of the 1970s, 10 major groups controlled 90% of the airlines, with 8 smaller, regional firms operating most of the other services. Now only 4 airlines control 80% of the market. People pay the price for unregulated monopolies dominating a critical transportation sector.

Not only do they pick your pocket, they also prevent better infrastructure from being built. Large airlines have successfully lobbied against alternatives like high-speed rail and deny worker-recommended upgrades.

Deregulation paves the way for this.
