In fact, the great neoclassical maestro Antonio Canova, who tried to buy the work, said he would gladly give up ten years of his life to produce such masterpiece.

As advancements in forensic technology reveal, antiquity’s surviving artifacts weren’t always without pigment. In a new installation titled “Color the Temple” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a well-known Egyptian relief is reliving its multi-colored glory thanks to a special light display.

A 1400 year old Ginkgo Biloba tree shows every November an autumn display, shedding his golden leaves, that attracts thousands of people from all over the country. The ancient tree grows behind a Buddhist Temple next to Gu Guanyin in the Zhongnan Mountain Region of China.

Species is believed to have appeared several hundred million years ago (fossilized remains have been found) and thought to be extinct, until a specimen was discovered by a German naturalist in late 1600s.

Historical Photograph taken in 1864 AD, shows a group of Japanese samurai standing in front of the Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt. This jolting image messes with our sense of history – the traditional Japanese clothes, the ancient Egyptian monument, and the European camera just don’t seem to add up. As unexpected as this combination may be, the 160 year-old photograph highlights a pivotal moment in the history of Japan and the globalized world.

Digital Reconstruction of the Ishtar Gate, largest of the 8 gates of Babylon (now in modern-day Iraq), built approximately 2500 years ago during reign of Babylonian King Nabuchadnezzar II.

Since the star of Ishtar, the goddess of love and beauty, is 8-pointed, the city of Babylon was also built with 8 gates. Because Ishtar's eyes are blue, the door is also blue.

Grand Suite on Orient Express :

Orient Express was a long-distance passenger train service created in 1883 AD, by Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits (CIWL) that operated in Europe until 2009.

Presently Venice-Simplon Orient Express train, a private venture by Belmond using original CIWL carriages from the 1920s and 1930s, continues to run from London to Venice and to other destinations in Europe, including the original route from Paris to Istanbul.

Minoans, who lived on the island of Crete, Greece; between 3000-1600 BC, had a very complex culture, more advanced than many of the societies that followed it.

This complexity is also shown in the artistically designed and skillfully made clothing they wore.

Much of our knowledge of this clothing comes from artwork that has been found at the sites where the Minoans lived, thousands of years before most recorded history.

This incredible Roman gold snake bracelet was found on the arm of a woman who was killed by Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in 79 AD, Pompeii.

The inscription on the inside states 'DOMINVS SVAE ANCILLAE' which means "From a master to his slave girl."

During a construction project in central Japan, a cache of 100,000 ancient coins, bundled in groups of 100 pieces and tied by straw rope, was discovered. Of the more than 300 coins examined, the oldest was minted in China some 2,000 years ago, while the most recent coin has been dated to 1256 AD.
