What could possibly go wrong?

@arstechnica @edutooters As a classroom user of these products, I'm starting to ask myself (and school) some hard questions.
Is anyone working on viable alternatives? Particularly to Google Classroom? I love the power of #Moodle, but GC ux is so much smoother.

@nixCraft in 1994 I set up a community computer centre on the edge of a South African informal settlement (Ivory Park, Midrand) using Linux and some old corporate PCs and a printer. Ran for like 9 months between reboots. I think a few careers got started there, writing up CVs and applying for jobs via email.

@feditips The joy of the fediverse is that it is still mostly human - in the best way. You can run a biggish account, and still be a human being, not an anonymous corporate machine.

@arstechnica I have an unusual use-case for WordPad. I am a high school teacher, and some of our exam candidates have "laptop concessions" - they may type their answers, rather than hand-write. But they must get no advantage other than the typing. So no spelling or grammar check. WordPad is perfect for this - various flavours of layout and format, but no additional help.
I would be curious if any other tools meet this use-case?
