XMPP Providers released version 2 of its API 🚀

All provider properties are automatically retrieved now 😍

We encourage all operators of public :xmpp: XMPP services to provide the data our project aggregates. That way, our bots can collect all information and update the entries in our provider list.

Most recently, automated collection of support addresses 💬 has been launched. For retrieving the support addresses of a provider, "XEP-0157: Contact Addresses for XMPP Services" is used. Support addresses will be available in version 2 (v2) of the API. The FAQ section explains how these properties can be provided by server admins.

Automating the Automatable 🤖

During the past year, we worked on automating the process of gathering data about XMPP providers. A suite of tools has been developed since, providing the ability to query properties via XMPP and through the web. 🚀

:xmpp: While the web bot already keeps two ratings up-to-date, we managed to create a second bot: The new #XMPP #bot retrieves the maximum upload size of a file and checks whether registrations via XMPP apps is possible. Additionally, it can gather registration web pages.

In total, our bots update five provider properties on a daily basis now!

We are working on automating the information retrieval for the provider list. That improves the currentness of our data. It also reduces the maintenance effort and makes it possible to easily add new providers to our listing.

Our new bot already crawls two provider properties! The ratings from https://compliance.conversations.im and https://www.thegreenwebfoundation.org/green-web-check/ are fetched daily now 🚀
