I just made a response video on TikTok to someone who said that you shouldn't leave Meta because Zuckerberg WANTS the left to leave and because if you do then your voice will be snuffed out.
I replied that Meta IS NOT all of social media and that there is a BETTER social media out there and that everyone should look up "the fediverse". No ads. No corporate bullshit. All owned and operated by everyday people.
It amazes me how far people will go to stay on Meta. What a load of shit.
There is no algorithm that brings posts to your timeline. The only posts you will see under your Home tab will be either people that you follow, or the boosts from people that you follow.
BOOSTING IS THE LIFE BLOOD OF MASTODON.
If you read something that is interesting, funny, thought provoking, news worthy, or beautiful, then BOOST IT.
Hitting "Favorite" lets the poster know that you liked it BUT IT DOESN'T LET ANYONE ELSE KNOW.
@Gargron When are we going to get a silhouetted picture of you and your wife walking down the street with the Mastodon plushie being held between the two of you?
You ever write a long post and after you've finished you delete it because you suddenly realize that you just don't give a fuck as much as you thought you did?
@peertube with no hesitation dropped a truth bomb today...
"The realization that led us to develop PeerTube is that no one can rival YouTube or Twitch. You would need Google’s money, Amazon servers’ farms... Above all, you would need the greed to exploit millions of creators and videomakers, groom them into formatting their content to your needs, and feed them the crumbs of the wealth you gain by farming their audience into data livestock."
People act like Gmail came in and afterwards there were no more email providers. Did a lot of people use it? Yes. Did it somehow kill off all off the small email providers? No. Some of them? Sure. All? No.
Why did I switch from Gmail to Proton? Because I stopped trusting Gmail. And felt that I could trust Proton more. Can I still email someone that uses Gmail? Yes. Do I have to support Gmail? No.
The purpose of an open protocol is choice. Otherwise why bother making it open?
