   My wife insists that I share this piece of information for cat owners as she believes it's not as widely known as it should be. Unlike human nails, cat claws have blood flow in them; the blood flow recedes over time if you trim them carefully and repeatedly over the course of a few days. This is how you avoid bleeding when trimming your cat's claws.

     @Gargron Trim cats nails often, it’s just the person who does the trimming who ends up bleeding. Otherwise it’s both the person and the cat.

     @Gargron Good to remind people of this. By the way, whilst nail trimming for indoor cats can be done provided it's done carefully, if your cat is an outdoor cat, it's better not to trim their nails: they need them for climbing and defense.

     @Gargron I can usually see the pink in the nail where the blood flow is. I never cut anywhere near that. And I kind of remember the general area of where that is on black nails, since you can't see the pink on those.

     @Gargron If you cat's nails bleed, you have cut too deep and probably hurt them badly. Always be very careful and just cut the sharp tip, do mot go anywhere near the pink area of the nail. It's the equivalent of your nail bed. Every time you nick it, you make it harder to trim the next time, and you risk allowing infection into the nail. As you gently and carefully trim your cat's nails, over time they will learn that you aren't going to hurt them, although they may still remember a trauma.

     @Gargron we never trimmed cat claws, they go outside and we have a cat scratcher box/ object.
