@coolboymew@XRatedPoetry@mischievoustomato permanently turning it off is subotimal for all the "fancy effects" that sometimes include stuff like magnifier because X11 really is big pile of shit when you dig into it.
@coolboymew@XRatedPoetry@mischievoustomato back when i was using nvidia it was also necessary to make plasma "unstuck" as it would eventually get stuck and show wrong time with compositing on. Also on X11 you really want to disable compositing when playing videogames because it causes stutters and lower perceived performance/lag, even on AMD.
@mischievoustomato@XRatedPoetry@coolboymew it's under desktop effects because it's technically a desktop effect (i.e. something that requires compositing) and KDE's settings been quite a mess for historical reasons. It's getting better, but unlike GNOME who like to make revolutions and rewrite everything every once a while, KDE's been evolving so they don't really get many opportunities to rearrange everything.
@coolboymew@XRatedPoetry@mischievoustomato Alt-Shift-F12 to toggle compositing if my (muscle) memory serves me well, you might want to change the renderer to some OpenGL version instead of XRender, too. Pardon me i think it's been half a year since last time I used X11. No restart required, if anything - logout+login should suffice.
