    @charliebrownau i guess to do nails and bolts and stuff you could wire up a screen or something to hold more than one at a time, but you'd want to make sure it's not stainless or your making nasty chemicals you don't want around.

    This is my first run so we'll see how it turns out. I don't have much current going through so it isn't going to be very quick but it is starting to change the color of the water so that's a good sign. hydrogen gas is being let off which lets me know everything is still running too.

    Electrolysis underway. I made a cup of washing soda and it didn't all dissolve because I used water that was sitting outside where it's cold AF. I only have an amp at 12v going in but it's working. I may look around for a bigger power supply but I have other things to work on so I'm not in a huge rush or anything.

    @BowsacNoodle @Jonaschuzzlewit @ProfessionalNEET that's the hope with electrolysis too. It converts the rust (ferrous oxide) to ferric oxide (or vice verse) and the resulting solution is a high iron mix that can be fed to plants (assuming no stainless steel is used which would create hexavalent chromium)

    @p sounds neat but lasers are so damn pricey. Seems cool that you can do it while the handle is still intact. I have this ace head removed from the handle already so lowering it into a tank of water won't fuck up the handle.

    @BowsacNoodle no I've never heard of that. This is my first time trying electrolysis, but if it works out this will probably become my go to method. It seems fairly quick and effective from what I've seen and read.

    @BowsacNoodle I haven't bought it in a few years. Last time I got 50 lbs for less than 30 bucks iirc.

    If you needed a lot of washing soda at one time it might make sense to buy it but usually I'm just making dish detergent or something and a couple cups is all I need. Today I need like half a cup lol.

    I imagine the cost of both is about the same at the store. I mainly learned to make it because it meant less things to store and label and risk mixing up. Also I do enjoy the processes involved in making just about anything.

    I still have to make some washing soda but that's easy enough. I buy my baking soda in bulk and when I need washing soda I just cook it on the stove.

    In could probably get away with using lye instead, but I think the washing soda is a safer option and it's not much trouble to make.

    @charliebrownau @sim my garage will work great once I have reorganized some things and built the workbench and some storage for tools and material. Right now I'm working in a small corner but as soon as I can pull everything out for a few days and sort through it all I think I can reclaim a lot more space. It still won't be some fancy shop that takes minutes to walk across with every imaginable large shop tool but a good work bench and neat places to keep my tools will make everything so much nicer.

    I also want to put horse panel down on the floor so if I drop something it doesn't hit concrete
