"Using techniques he’s honed over a lifetime, Abernethy will machine the gears by hand in traditional materials such as steel and brass. But the pendulum will respond to the forest: When trees grow quickly, the hours will advance more rapidly; more lethargic growth will result in a slower tempo.”
Trying to use Twitter/X to do something simple like see how bad the roads and sidewalks are in #Philly is now entirely impossible. Every common term is coopted by a crypto spammer, search is useless.
A guy will have exceedingly specific preferences as to whether he can be referred to as Charles, Charlie, Chuck or Chucky and still be like "I can't be expected to recognize everyone's pronouns.”
This day in legal history entry for today: on this day in 1911, #SCOTUS ordered the dissolution of Standard Oil pursuant to the Sherman Act, holding that SO’s monopoly “unduly” restrained trade. The ruling resulted in breaking Standard Oil up into 34 independent companies. These companies became known as the "baby Standards." The breakup aimed to promote competition and prevent the concentration of economic power.
More pseudo-masculine framing by the #NYTimes, "both sides" treatment and pretending these two are pugilists standing toe to toe instead of the duly-elected president and a hostage of the Q Werewolf.
Furiously assembling a team to announce my own presidential run tomorrow, simulcast on here and Friendfeed.
Joining me on “stage” will be Lyle Menendez, a random priest, Jose Canseco and a cancel-culture victim muppet named "Lord Handso” (looks just like the Hamburger Helper hand but is covered in stains).
Doesn’t this suggest Biden and his family are being treated fairly? If you roll in the view held by Trump et al that they’re corrupt, then “fair” for Trump world is to look the other way, I guess.
We have a fun “this day in legal history” for today – it's the anniversary of the start of the Scopes Monkey Trial.
The trial took place in 1925 and involved the prosecution of HS teacher John T. Scopes for teaching evolution, which was prohibited by Tennessee's Butler Act. Scopes was found guilty and fined $100. The trial was initiated when the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) offered to support any teacher willing to challenge the constitutionality.
The mental image of #Trump shambling up to people at Mar-a-lago and asking if they want to see North Korean aluminum tube sites will be sticking with me for a while.
